OK, Now we have two things to work on: 1. Let's work on repeal of the 17th Amendment and have our Commonwealths and States be represented in the Senate. 2. We know now that it doesn't take from November to January to get to DC, so let's eliminate the lame duck sessions. (discussion continues on my Facebook page! |

PRIOR SHOWS:(click on the links below the segments to hear the show)

Last Show: April 30: Noon: Senate Candidate Bishop E.W. Jackson. He brings a passion to his work challenging the current Senate membership that others who have been on my show don't. 12:30: Former VB City Council candidate Andrew Jackson, on a proposal to create districts for Virginia Beach's City Council. We also discussed proportional representation (which I disagree with--I think a good representative (of any race) can represent all of the people in the district (of any race), and should do so, in the matters which government should be involved in). 12:50: Councilman Bill DeSteph gave us good news about Virginia Beach. 1pm: We discussed interesting facts comparing earlier times to today. For example, people who are "poor" today have things that Mr. Vanderbilt did not have. 1:15: Congressman Scott Rigell told us about his work in Congress. 1:30: We were introduced to Sen. Mark Obenshain, to meet other conservatives in the Commonwealth. |
April 23: Noon: Delegate Sal Iaquinto gave us an update on the General Assembly, redistricting, his bills (end the War of 1812 BPOL tax! Go Sal!), and how to get elected. 12:30: We learned about Symphonicity, which is Virginia Beach's outstanding orchestra from Music Director/Conductor Dave Kunkel. 1pm: Christy Everett from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation discussed the Bay, the role of EPA in this effort (the TMDL process) and how to clean up the Bay. 1:45: Karen Forget, Executive Director of Lynnhaven River Now, told us about LRNow and discussed the impact of dredging. |
April 16: Noon: Virginia Beach Councilmember Jim Wood answered questions about the city's dredging project. This issue raises questions for the entire city, as the citizens who are opposed to it have run into transparency issues, the role of the city in the process, and the allocation of the city's resources. He also provided answers to questions I provided to him in writing, and I will be posting those soon. 1pm: John Moss gave us his analysis of Virginia Beach's budget. |
April 9: Coby Dillard joined us. It was good to meet this energetic young co-founder of the local Tea Party organization. I then discussed how the mortgage mess, which got us into the financial crisis (see Paul Sperry's interview below), is continuing. Gary Byler, GOP Congressional District Chairman, called in and gave us his views on redistricting. He made a good point about unintended consequences. While Virginia Beach should have 2 senators plus to represent its community interest, and the current plan does not provide for that, it will be interesting to see what happens. Will the Governor veto the plan? And if it goes into effect at the end of the process, can Virginia Beach ultimately benefit from it anyway? Congressman Scott Rigell called in. I applauded his courage and he gave us his thoughts about his "No" vote on the continuing resolution that gave time to enact the legislation putting the Boehner-Reid-Obama agreement in place. This deal looks to have prevented a shutdown. We won't really know if this is the case until later in the week. But I think Scott was right to vote no. I also think Representative Rigell was right that the vote should have been on a separate appropriation for DoD, and for a continuing resolution for the rest. But that was not the deal that Speaker Boehner got. We will also continue exploring Virginia Beach's dredging plan. Mike Megge and Dave Williams posed a number of questions about Virginia Beach's plan to dredge the Lynnhaven River basin. This issue is greater than the dredging question, as it raises concerns about transparency, citizen input, use of City resources, the City's role in the permitting process. Councilmember Jim Wood has agreed to take questions next week, so send them to me if you'd like. |
April 2: DONALD RUMSFELD, former Secretary of Defense (twice), White House Chief of Staff, Ambassador to NATO, and Congressman talked about Iraq, being SecDef, JFCOM and local relationships to DoD, and more. He also talked about his memoir, KNOWN AND UNKNOWN, which I recommend, and the proceeds from which will go to wounded warriors. Afterwards, Admiral Fred Metz discussed current local defense issues-what they are, and what we as a community including our elected representatives, both Federal and State, should be doing to keep and attract them. We also discussed Virginia Beach's plan to truck hundreds of trucks of dredging sludge through neighborhoods which are not benefitting from the dredging operations. Mike Megge helped us understand the impact.

March 19: Congressman Scott Rigell and Senator Jeff McWaters gave us updates on their work in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Virginia Senate. Due to our power outage, we lost the recording of Tea Party co-founder Karen Hurd. I will post a summary of our chat here. |
March 5: Delegate Chris Stolle gave us an update on the just completed legislative session. Then we heard local author Paul Puckett who is an expert in investing, and has written the book "Investiphobia." |
February 26: Noon: Philip Shucet, President and CEO of Hampton Roads Transit about the recent financial problems, light rail, and the future of HRT. 1pm: Jamie Radtke, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate |
February 19: Noon: We learned what caused the financial crisis, which caused our country to lose the equivalent of one year's productivity (for the whole country!) which equals over $100,000 per person, all because the financial system was turned into a social program. Paul Sperry wrote the book "The Great American Bank Robbery" and he documents what actions the government took to make the crisis possible. Then we heard from Joe Bingham, a 30 year real estate broker, a 5 year mortgage broker, and the director of a 1300 person real estate corporation. He had an alternative view which was interesting to hear--again from a conservative perspective it was the regulators, then and now, which caused the problems, and continue to do so. 1 p.m.: We also heard from Dinesh D'Souza, on his book "The Roots of Obama's Rage." His view is that President Obama is less a socialist than he is influenced into being an American anti-colonialist by his father. I don't think America is really a colonial power. But it does seem consistent with the way President Obama apologizes for America. |

November 13:
Great show today! Elaine Donnelly from the Center for Military Readiness (www.cmrlink.org) helped us understand what factors should be considered while debating whether LGBT people can serve in the military. There is no right to serve, plus she pointed out that there is no compelling reason to change the law which says that they are not eligible to serve. Waverly Woods of Copa Cabana Tanning (copacabanatanning.com), small business owner, told us of the costs of running a small business. CATO's (cato.org) Tad DeHaven helped us with the problems of the federal budget. First we should ask what the role of that government is, then figure out what we should pay for--then we will know what to cut! We had an update fromCity Councilmember Bill DeSteph with good news about Virginia Beach, and job openings (billdesteph.org). Then we had a good discussion on the issue I am taking on--repeal of the 17th Amendment. Let's help stop special interests the way the Founders wanted to! |

Thelma gave us insights on how the U.S. House of Representatives works, and the role of the Speaker. She made it clear that party affiliation is very important meaning that if we are represented by an independent, we will not have the influence we would have if represented by a member of a major party. She predicted a Scott Rigell win. Councilman Bill DeSteph joined us for a SpendingRevolt.com update. September 11:
Unfortunately (except for ECU fans) the show is preempted by the ECU football game on Sept. 11. |
